The Love Letter worm was a good demonstration of the power and danger of scripting. In the meantime Microsoft has enabled different security features for Windows Scripts. Script can be digitally signed and script execution can be restricted based on signatures or location. Secrets in the script content can be hidden using script encoding. Passwords can be safely inserted and stored using CAPICOM. A lot of scripting components support authentication and impersonation. This session will also take a look at Scripting Security in Vista and Microsoft PowerShell. |
